How to Take Your Online Business Offline - Internet Business ...

By Paul Barrs

It?s almost unheard of isn?t it? Who on earth (these days) could possibly be so bold as to say that you should well consider the benefits of reversing the worldwide trend, and look at taking your online business offline? me!

Though it?s best that I immediately rule out a few assumptions here -

1. No I?m not talking about you dumping your website and all that stuff you?ve learned and go back to your phone and fax machine.
2. No, I?m not talking about you giving up eMail communication and only contacting your customers face to face.
3. I?m certainly not talking about you setting up a shop front and installing a cash register ? and won?t need a credit card crunching machine either!

Here?s a basic fact that you may not yet be aware of? *some* businesses out there in the ?traditional? business world are actually still doing those tings I?ve listed above.
So, when I suggest that you take your online home business offline, I don?t mean *move* your business, I mean *use* your skills.

Let?s face facts; these days once you get plugged into a good website, or net-marketing training program, it doesn?t take too long to learn the ins and outs of the ?basics of Net Business?, does it? Not at all.

However, if you?re still one of the 98%* of those people in our net-marketing niche who have learnt this stuff and not yet even made a regular $1000 a month, then you?re either ready to give up, or you?re going to spend, spend, spend *until* you somehow find that ?magic key?.

* [Sidebar: That 98% is a number I figured myself based on now 9 years experience online and being in contact with tens of thousands of net-marketing wanna-be's and people over that time.]

dice-questionBack to the issue at hand however? if you?re one of those who are still looking for that magic key, that illusive *thing* that will allow you to work for yourself and build your own small business, then this could be it for you -

Here is ONE of the various magic keys that have allowed me to build a totally sustainable small business that kicks over 6 figures a year:

I took my ?online net marketing skills offline?, and you can do the same.

Let me explain -

Back in ?02 I was still struggling financially to pay all my bills and meet the family needs. Now even though the previous year I?d made about 36K online it still wasn?t enough to meet the needs of my family (plus I had some pretty huge debts backed up as well). However, I?d begun to master the basics of online business and was at least happy with my progress.

But then one of my friends who owned a local accommodation house asked me if I could ?fix up? his website for him. ?Sure? I said, no problem. And being that I?m not a designer I went and found a nice looking website template, copied over his text and images and put it back up for him. I didn?t know what to charge back then so I asked for $500 (I mean it only took me two days to do it).

Once that was done though I suggested that he should set his site up for search engines and add an eZine subscription list to it etc etc. Sound familiar? Of course, it?s the stuff we do everyday. He ended up paying me another $500 to do those things for him.

Only a short time later I found that he referred me to an associate who asked me to do the same thing. That then led to another referral, the third one earning me $1,500.

idea-manAnd that?s when it clicked with me ? most website designers don?t know SQUAT about website *marketing*!

The following 12 months saw my income increase by slightly more than 250%, of which one third was ?offline income?. Within two years I was able to ask (and receive) up to $5,000 for the very same job that I?d done the first time. That year my income was well over the 6-figure mark with HALF of it coming from the offline world.

Can you see the potential value in this? And I?ve got to assure you here though? that the market isn?t closed up by a long shot. Yes, it?s true that website designers are getting a bit more savvy and learning more about the marketing side of things ? but that?s only for their new clients. What about the old ones who got burnt so badly last time that their website is still set in failure mode.

You could be their salvation. You could take the skills of your online home business and take it offline.

And here?s the most beautiful bit ? you don?t have to be a genius designer to make it happen. I?m not. You don?t have to be the best in the world or in your city at what you do. I?m not. IN fact, nowadays you can use WordPress to get the site up and running (you set it up ? the client pays your for it) and then you pick up some back end by then *teaching* them on how to run it from then on themselves (they get the value of saving money, while paying you for the? privilege).

Imagine that!!

But now I want you to open your mind a little further? this concept doesn?t just apply to website marketing; about generic marketing campaigns and strategies ? how many businesses out there actually have a mailing list? How many of them run regular surveys of their customers? How many of them integrate regular joint ventures with other companies? The answer? not many. I know, because I?ve been consulting to these people for years now. And while it?s nice to kick over 100K or more online each year, it?s a bucket load better to crank that up to a 1/4 of a mill. by taking what you learn online? and teaching it offline.
