SYDNEY (AP) -Australian football club Sydney FC reportedly plans to try and sign former Juventus and Italy forward Alessandro del Piero as its marquee player for the next A-League season.
Sydney FC chief executive Tony Pignata is quoted as saying in Wednesday's edition of the Sydney Morning Herald that his club had already approached Del Piero through his management and was "going to go for it as hard as we can."
Pignata says "the board is 100 per cent behind this. We believe he's the perfect marquee player. This is not a gimmick, it's deadly serious."
The 37-year-old Del Piero became a free agent in May after playing a record 513 matches for Juventus. His 91 appearances for Italy make him the nation's fourth most-capped player.
