I don?t think any military spouse is surprised when we miss a holiday together when our service member is deployed or away on military business. That being the case, it still doesn?t make any easier to miss those special occasions. This coming Sunday many military families will be missing Father?s Day with their loved one . Although this can be alittle disappointing to know Dad won?t be here to celebrate the day with the family it doesn?t have to be.

A Good Old Fashioned Skype Gathering

I have talked about my family?s Skype dates with our soldier many times. My husband and I usually set up time for ourselves separately, but on Father?s Day is the perfect time for the whole family to join in and interact. Take a moment and let the kids perform for dad, sing, dance and act silly just like they would if dad were home.

Virtual Father?s Day Dinner

One of the things we did was have dinner with my husband when he was deployed on Father?s Day. Thank goodness he stayed up but he agreed to make sure he was there to sit on our laptop screen at the dinner table. It was fun! Although he couldn?t eat his favorite food he did have some special snacks I had sent to him in his care package that he was able to enjoy as we ate.

Virtual Gifts

There are tons of gifts you can send online. My husband is obsessed with computer gaming and he loved nothing more then getting a gift card to put towards another game . Music gift cards are also great. If you want to personalize things more create a virtual playlist of all his favorite songs.

Although my husband won?t be home to celebrate Father?s Day with us this weekend I love to see the celebrations of those who will, especially those serving overseas who make it home just in time.

This is why I am proud to share about Dove: MissionCare who has partnered with Operation Homefront to bring 300 military fathers home to their families just in time for their big day.
