Tampa?s Wisteria Lane: Inside the Florida base where Petraeus and his generals held ?wild parties every night? Daily Mail [UK], by?Snejana Farberov |
Original Article |
Posted By:Attercliffe, 11/17/2012 10:45:36 PM |
The Tampa, Florida, military base that has gained notoriety for its connection to General David Petraeus? sex scandal has been compared to Wisteria Lane from the show Desperate Housewives where out-of-control parties with top brass are a nightly occurrence, and where social climbing is a favorite pastime. Those visiting MacDill Air Force Base for the first time will likely be surprised to see the sprawling bayfront homes with covered porches, the upscale gym, golf course, boat rentals and other trappings of the good life that bear little resemblance to nearly any other military outpost.

In addition, a reserved grave site at Arlington is a really good perk.

The number of seriously ill patients forced to wait more than half an hour on trolleys and in ambulances before being admitted to accident and emergency has rocketed by up to 300 percent in just 12 months. Figures uncovered in an investigation by The Mail on Sunday reveal mounting delays for 999 patients at hospitals across the country as casualty units struggle to cope with Government cuts and the closure and downgrading of other A&E wards. Nearly half a million patients brought into casualty by ambulance last year were left for half an hour or more in vehicles or in

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said on Friday that it will extend a program to provide temporary housing to New Yorkers displaced by Hurricane Sandy for an additional month. The extension will allow applicants, whose homes were damaged by the devastating storm, to stay in hotels or motels until appropriate accommodations become available. ?We know that some survivors in hard-hit areas are facing critical challenges to getting back into their homes,? Federal Coordinating Officer Michael F. Byrne said in a statement. ?We are working in close coordination with our state and

Kate Middleton is admired for her impeccable style, and designers all over the world line up to dress the royal brunette. So it?s no suprise that during her recent trip to London, Kim Kardashian wanted to get a piece of the action. The reality star and her famous sisters recently launched a fashion collection at Dorothy Perkins, and reportedly sent the Duchess a load of free clothing, only to get them send straight back.[Snip] The Kardashian Kollection features a lot of figure-hugging silhouettes, with leopard print and studs - not exactly appropriate for a member of the Royal family.

Forget about that dead parrot of a question--should we join the eurozone? The eurozone has officially joined us in a newly emerging international organisation: we are all now members of the Permanent No-growth Club. And the United States has just re-elected a president who seems determined to sign up too.[Snip]Like us, the member nations of the European single currency have embarked on their very own double (or is it triple?) dip recession. This is the future: the long, meandering ?zig-zag? recovery to which the politicians and heads of central banks allude is just a euphemism for the end of economic

Bryson Nelson can?t remember the last time he ate a Twinkie, but he felt disheartened to learn Friday that the snack cakes? maker was going out of business. ?That?s horrible,? said Nelson, who lives downtown. ?I feel like a piece of my childhood just died. I always thought they would survive the nuclear apocalypse--those and cockroaches and (Rolling Stones member) Keith Richards.?[Snip] Twinkies are so popular that at least one North Charleston restaurant, Big Billy?s Burger Joint, created a ?Caramel Twinkie? milkshake for its menu that?s made of vanilla ice cream, Twinkies and caramel syrup.

He was once known for his love of junk food. But Bill Clinton?s efforts to slim down have clearly paid off. The former US President, 66, looked remarkably trim as he left a plush London restaurant on Thursday night. Mr Clinton had been enjoying a dinner with actor Kevin Spacey at the upmarket Scott?s seafood restaurant in Mayfair, after giving a speech in the capital. The former president, formerly known for his love of burgers, barbecue and junk food, changed to a strict vegan diet in 2010 after fears over his health. IRVING, Texas - Say goodbye to your Twinkies. North Texas-based Hostess Brands, Inc. has decided to go out of business and liquidate its assets after failing to win back striking workers. The company posted a statement on a website set up specifically for people following the strike. "We deeply regret the necessity of today?s decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike," said Gregory F. Rayburn, chief executive officer. "Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders.

Republican Congressman Peter King just exited the closed-door hearing with David Petraeus to update the media, and his description of the ex-CIA Chief?s testimony contained more than one bombshell. For starters, King said Petraeus told them that the CIA talking points meant for U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice?s Sept. 16 round robin of five Sunday network news shows, originally contained the information that there was evidence al-Qaeda elements were involved in the attack. These talking points were then altered through "an inter-agency process."

BIDDEFORD, Maine ? Labor leaders in Maine say the resilience of the Hostess workers on the picket line at the company?s Biddeford plant, which is in the process of being shut down after the company on Friday said it would liquidate the business, gives them inspiration in the face of what they believe have been ongoing efforts ? by politicians, including Gov. At a press conference of female House Democrats pushing back against Sen. John McCain?s (R-Ariz.) criticism of Ambassador Susan Rice?s false explanation of the Benghazi terror attack, Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wisc.) mocked McCain?s choice of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) as his running mate in 2008. ?It?s very difficult to recruit qualified women, and Sen. McCain should know that,? Moore said at a Capitol Hill press conference Friday, prompting laughter from the other women members on the stage. Headline resplit by staff.

WASHINGTON -- A dozen female members of the House staunchly defended U.N. ambassador Susan Rice against Republican criticism over her remarks on the deadly Sept. 11 Libya attack, suggesting the GOP lawmakers? comments were racist and sexist. "It is a shame that anytime something goes wrong, they pick on women and minorities," Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, the next chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, told reporters Friday at a Capitol Hill news conference. Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham earlier this week called Rice untrustworthy and unqualified to be the nation?s top diplomat if
